How Festival Radar Ratings Work
Combined Rating
Festival Radar calculates a combined rating from multiple trusted sources:
- FilmFreeway Reviews: Community ratings from filmmakers on the largest submission platform
- Google Reviews: Public ratings of the festival organization
- Yelp Reviews: Ratings from attendees and community members
- Festival Radar Reviews: Verified filmmaker experiences shared on our platform
Festival Verified Badge
The Verified Organizer badge means a festival has passed Festival Radar's verification review. Verification confirms organizer authority only — it does not affect ratings, reviews, trust labels, advisory notes, Festival Match, or Festival Advisor.
Important: Verification is NOT a guarantee. The annual review fee ($49/year) covers the verification review process only. If rejected, admin decides whether the fee is refunded, credited, or treated as a non-refundable review fee. Festivals that sell trophies, certificates, or awards to winners are automatically rejected.
A Verified Organizer badge means:
- ✓ The festival passed an ethical standards review
- ✓ Winners receive free awards (not sold)
- ✓ The festival has screening evidence
- ✓ Filmmakers can expect clear communication and professional conduct
Advisory Notices
Advisory notices appear on festivals with the following signals:
- • Low public review volume
- • Mixed or negative filmmaker feedback
- • No venue evidence found
- • Online-only screening (no physical venue)
- • High submission fees with unclear value, award system
- • Negative reputation signals from public sources
Why Festival Organizers Cannot Edit Ratings
Festival Radar is filmmaker-first. Organizers can update factual information (dates, deadlines, links, contact details), but they cannot:
- ✗ Edit ratings or review scores
- ✗ Delete or hide filmmaker reviews
- ✗ Remove advisory notices or warnings
- ✗ Influence Festival Match recommendations
- ✗ Affect trust calculations in any way
This ensures our platform remains independent and trustworthy for filmmakers.
How Filmmaker Reviews Work
Filmmakers can write reviews about their personal festival submission experiences. All reviews are:
- Moderated: Checked for accuracy, defamation, abuse, and legal concerns
- Transparent: Moderation decisions are explained to the reviewer
- Verifiable: Reviewers submit proof of their festival experience
- Anonymizable: Filmmakers can choose to remain anonymous
Platform Integrity
Festival Radar is funded independently and does not accept payment from festivals to manipulate results or remove information. This protects filmmaker interests and maintains our credibility.
